Access changes as children move through school.
The figures above come from the National Endowment for the Arts’ 2025 report, Snapshots of Arts Education in Childhood and Adolescence: Access and Outcomes. The report brings together three U.S. Department of Education data sets to examine arts experiences from early childhood through high school.
In the report’s early-grade findings, regular access to each activity was more common in kindergarten than in fifth grade. These figures describe reported access, not the quality or total amount of instruction a child receives.
For families, each drawing, painting, song, or school project can be a small record of a child’s growing imagination. Giving those pieces a visible place at home is one simple way to keep the creative moments close.
